The band Como Asesinar a Felipes became the big winner of the sixth edition of Chile’s Pulsar Awards, proudly taking home the award for Best Album of the Year for “Naturaleza Muerta”, while simultaneously taking the price in the Best Urban Artist category. This news coincides with their official announcement of their new record “MMXX” coming out in October.
Como Asesinar a Felipes’ eighth album, called “ MXX”, was made by using only synths and drum-machines instead of traditional analog instruments. The record lists seven original songs but will also include remixes by prominent artists like Mixhell (featuring Igor Cavalera) and Talking Book ( Faith No More’s Bill Gould along with abstract artists Jared Blum and Dominic Cramp), and Toy Selectah (Control Machete, Sonesdelmexside). Other collaborators will be announced in the following months. About the genesis of MMXX, Felipe Metraca states: “we took on a very demanding challenge. We almost had to learn how to play music again to figure out the language and sound of the machine. It’s an experiment we always wanted to do.”
“Naturaleza Muerta”, the grand album chosen as Best Album at this year’s Pulsar Awards came out on July 12th, 2019 and it was played live entirely the following day at Sala Metrónomo. The record features Camila Moreno, Mapuche poet Mapurbe, and Deftones’ vocalist, Chino Moreno, as guests. The latter participating in Disparan (fill the skies), their most played song on Spotify with other seven hundred thousand plays.
With a trajectory of 13 years, Como Asesinar a Felipes is one of the most original musical projects to come out of Chile. Their particular mix of hip-Hop, jazz and progressive elements have reached to different audiences and has opened the door for the bend to play in massive events such as Lollapalooza Chile (2011 and 2018), Vive Latino (2014), SXSW (2014), Rock al Parque (2018) and Primavera Sound (2018); be part of the Latin American leg of Faith No More’s 2015 tour; and embarking in multiple tours in Mexico, US, Europe and all of Chile.
